Eleven large and middle size companies work in the Altai territory. These companies are engaged in issues of production, transferring and distribution electricity and heating. The total electric and heating power provided by the companies comprises 1651,7 megawatt and 6375,5 gigacalorie per hour.

The main company in Altai is the Barnaul branch of the stock company “Kuzbassenergo”. The Barnaul branch of “Kuzbassenergo” includes Barnaul heat station – 1,2,3; Barnaul heating plant, Biysk heat networks. The total electric power of the Barnaul branch of “Kuzbassenergo” comprises 784,2 megawatt and the total heating power comprises 3503 gigacalorie per hour.

The total electricity consumption in 2006 in the Altai territory comprised 10,4 billion kilowatt per hour. 51% of this number (5,4 billion kilowatt per hour) was produced within the Altai territory and the rest was supplied by the outside companies.

At present time the energy system of the Altai territory, as well as the whole Russian energy system is in the stage of reforms.
